Step 8

“Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.”

Make a list of all persons

Much of this list is already made… You compiled the people and places that involved resentment, fear and hurts. You are not focusing on those who hurt you as much as you are focusing on those you have harmed. Here are some questions to help you remember those whom you may have overlooked…

A. Family

· Who are the members of your family (blood relatives) that you have harmed in some way? ____________________________________________________

B. Friends

· Who are your friends and close acquaintances you have harmed in some way? ____________________________________________________

C. Colleagues

· Who are the people you work with, study with, volunteer with? Are there members in your church, synagogue or mosque?                      ____________________________________________________

II  We have harmed

The harm you have caused them may be a direct result of your addiction, but not necessarily so. Do not concern yourself, at this point, with how you will make amends; merely compile the list.

A. Sins of Omission

· Are there times when you caused harm by purposefully neglecting to do something for someone? Who was it?                                        ____________________________________________________

B.  Sins of Commission

· What was done on purpose with the intention to hurt or damage? To whom? ____________________________________________________

III  Become willing to make amends to them all

If you are wondering how to become willing to make these amends, look to the Serenity Prayer for your answer: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

A.  Let Go…

a) Acceptance of self Are you willing to take responsibility for your past?
